Victims shatter polio myth

Tanahun, January 19:

Three patients have been diagnosed with polio AHT in Tanahun district.

The AHT cases were found in 12-year-old Anju Nepali of Chhang – 2, Kuldanda, Binod Rai of Chhang-5 and a 15-month-old baby girl of Lajdi Khola of Chhimkeswori Village Development Committee.

Anju had approached the Chharpu-based Bhattarai Medical last week after she was unable to move her right leg for four days.

“I immediately informed the World Health Organisation, IBP office Pokhara, after I suspected

polio symptoms,” said proprietor

of the medical centre and in-charge of the Thurpu health post, Aishworya Bhattarai.

Dr Sushil Nath Pyakurel of the Damauli hospital had diagnosed Anju of AHT polio, said Bhattarai.

The same week, Binod Rai and the 15-month-old baby girl were diagnosed with the same disease by Dr Kishori Mahat of the World Health Organisation (WHO) IBP office of Pokhara, Bhattarai said.

Stool samples of the three persons were sent to Bangkok for tests to

confirm the case, said Dr Pyakurel, adding that the report would come after a month.
