RAJBIRAJ, FEBRUARY 10

Locals today obstructed the upgradation of the East-West Highway demanding construction of a bus stop along with six-lane road at Sitapur Chowk of Agnisair Krishnasabaran Rural Municipality in Saptari.

The locals have demanded the sixlane road along with a bus stop as the chowk is busy. They said that no authority had heeded their demands yet. The upgradation work of the road was halted from early this morning after locals took vehicles and the materials under their control. The villagers accused the rural municipality, road division and the authority concerned of paying no heed to the demands put forward by the locals. "We have been compelled to protest due to this reason," they added.

Sitapur Market Management Committee Chairman Milan Chaudhary said that they had written to the authority concerned, but their demands went unheeded. He said they also prevented staffers and representatives from entering the office of the rural municipality today.

Chaudhary added that the bus stop and the six-lane road was necessary as there were many offices where people gathered almost all the time. Daily official activities were also halted.
