Volunteers for literacy drive threaten stir
Palpa, March 17:
Claiming that they were not paid the promised wages, volunteers for the National Literacy Campaign (NLC) gheraoed the office of District Development Committee of Palpa today.
They also submitted a memorandum to the DDC, threatening to halt the literacy classes and stage protests if their demands were not met immediately. “We can not work for a meagre Rs 1,000 a month,” they said. The volunteers claimed that they were only paid Rs 1,000 though they were promised Rs 2,000 a month.
As many as 630 volunteers have been mobilised in 65 VDCs and one municipality of Palpa district for the campaign.
