Vote counting concludes in 246 local units: EC
KATHMANDU: The Election Commission has said that the counting of votes of 246 local level units has been completed so far on Monday.
Local level elections were held at 334units in 35 districts of province no. 1, 5 and 7 on June 28.
Counting of votes has now been completed in 20 districts, according to the EC.
According to the Joint Election Operation Centre of the Election Commission, final result has been out in 93 local units in province no. 1, 80 in province no. 5 and 73 in province no. 7.
As per the latest result, CPN-UML is leading the count with 104 positions of Mayor/Chair followed by Nepali Congress at 95, CPN (MC) at 32, Federal Socialist Forum with 6, Madhesi Janadhikar Forum Nepal with 4, RPP with 2 and independent candidate one unit.
Likewise, UML has won 123 positions of deputy mayor/vice-chair, NC has won 79, CPN (MC) has won 32, Federal Socialist Forum Nepal has won 5, Janadhikar Forum Democratic has won 3, Rastriya Janamorcha and Rastriya Prajatantra Party have claimed 2 each.
The Elections Commission further said that the preparations are underway to hold local level elections in province number 2 on September 18.
