Vote counting to speed up

Chitwan, May 16

Acting on complaints of sluggish vote count in Chitwan, Bharatpur Metropolis, an all party meeting convened here today decided to conduct the count from 10 places.

Nepali Congress and CPN-MC had forged alliance in the metropolis, where CPN-MC’s Renu Dahal is running for mayor. As per preliminary results, UML mayoral candidate Devi Prasad Gyawali has taken the lead here.

“We will start arranging ballot papers and vote count from 10 places from tonight,” said Chitwan CDO Narayan Prasad Bhatta. So far, three groups are counting votes here. “As arranging and counting votes in just three groups took time, we have decided to add more people and intensify the counting,” said the CDO, adding, “While six groups will arrange the ballot papers, four groups will be counting them.”

As the chief election officer alone cannot monitor the counting at 10 different places, the meeting has also agreed to ask help from chief district officer, Bharatpur Metropolis executive officer, local development officer and district education officer for monitoring vote count. Vote count in Bharatpur had started from 4:30pm yesterday.
