Vote counting in Syangja yet to begin

SYANGJA: Vote counting has yet to begin in Syangja after political parties failed to come to an agreement.

Accusing Nepali Congress representatives of rigging at a few polling stations in the district, representatives of the left alliance formed by the CPN-UML and CPN-Maoist Centre have refused to participate in the vote counting process.

According to the left alliance, NC activists took polling booths based at Ram Mandir Ma Vi (A and B), Jana Sakriya Avasiya School and Kalika Adharbhut Vidhyalaya under their control and barred others to from voting.

UML and CPN-Maoist activists also staged protest at District Coordination Office on Friday. At least six left alliance activists, including the UML's regional committee coordinator Krishna Khand, were injured after the police charged batons.
