Vote counting underway in 14 local units in Bara district

BARA: Out of 16 local units in Bara district vote counting is underway in 14 local bodies, the Election Commission said.

Nepali Congress has emerged victorious in Kariyamai Rural Municipality and Nepal Democratic Forum clinched victory in Devtal Rural Municipality.

Meanwhile, Nepali Congress, UML, Federal Socialist Forum Nepal are leading in four local unites each. Nepal Democratic Forum is leading in one local unit, according to EC.

However, the vote counting has been halted in Baragadi, Kolahbi and Adarsha Koltal Rural Municipalities after disputes.

According to the Election Commission, UML is leading in Kaliya and Jeetpur-Simara Sub Metropolitan Cities.

UML Krishna Paudel is leading with 6069 votes to CPN-Maoist Centre's Rajan Paudel with 5368 votes in Jeetpur-Simara Sub Metropolitan City.

Election Officer Ritendra Thapa said that the vote counting in four local bodies has been halted after a dispute erupted between the political parties representatives at the counting centre.

The vote counting was stopped at Kohalvi Municipality, Adarsha, Baragadi and Subarna Rural Municipalities in the district.

The dispute erupted after 500 votes were mistakenly announced in Kohalvi Municipality. Employees mistakenly added twice 500 votes to UML mayoral candidate Bharat Bhandari and other political parties representatives raised the issue.

Meanwhile, Election Office Thapa said that the vote counting was mistakenly announced during the miking and meeting has been held to resolve the issue.
