Ward-Chair drowns himself leaving behind suicide note

RAMECHHAP: Ward chair of a rural municipality in the district has drowned himself in a local river after penning a suicide note on Wednesday.

Ward Chair Kuber Khatri of Umakunda Rural Municipality-5, Ramechhap had been reported missing on Tuesday after he failed to attend a meeting of the rural municipality.

During the search, Khatri’s motorcycle, diary and coat were found near the Likhu River Bridge in Umakunda, on Tuesday evening.

The deceased’s body was found 500 metres down the river from the spot where his belongings were discovered, informed Police Inspector Rajendra Thapa.

Khatri, who was elected the ward chair from CPN-UML had left a note in his diary saying that he wanted to die because he found life melancholic, said police.

Khatri's body has been kept at Jiri Hospital in Dolakha for autopsy.
