Ward chair Bharat Waiba of Manthali Municipality, Ramechhap, has declared he will spend all his salary on social service.

“I’ve decided to use my salary for the development of the ward. Besides, we’ve also planned to provide allowance to new mothers and schoolchildren from the fund meant for the ward,” said Waiba.

With his salary so far received, he has constructed a temple and also purchased land to set up the ward office.

The local representative, who receives Rs 21,000 as monthly stipend, has purchased a plot worth four lakh to set up the ward office there, he has built a Mahadev temple with a fund of 71,000.

Waiba so far has received 294,000 rupees in salary ever since he assumed office as ward chair. “As the amount was not enough to buying land and build the temple, I had to borrow the remaining amount,” said Waiba, who pledged to use all his salary for social welfare.

As for new mothers, the ward is planning to provide Rs 3,000 each to new mothers. Besides, students will get Rs 300 per month.

“Regarding education allowance to schoolchildren, we hope that the allowance will be an incentive for the kids to attend school,” said the ward chair, who has also pledged to provide Rs 1,500 to each of the two handicapped persons in his ward from his own salary.

He has also announced he will spend a significant amount of his salary for the elderly in his ward.

Meanwhile, the announcement has made the elderly people of the ward happy.

“As the government gives only a nominal amount to us, the announcement of the ward chair to help us has made us glad,” said Hari Bahadur Khadka, a local.

Waiba is the only Rastriya Prajatantra Party candidate, who was elected to the post of ward chair in the district which has a total of 64 wards.
