Whereabouts of 39 displaced from Arghakhanchi unknown: INSEC

Kathmandu, March 10:

The 39 persons who were displaced after a clash between locals and Maoists in Arghakhanchi late last month are yet to return home and their whereabouts remain unknown, according to a report made public today.

Making public the report, Informal Sector Service Centre (INSEC) urged the government to take action against those involved in the February 22 incident in which one Maoist activist was killed and 12 others were injured.

Clashes had erupted between the Maoists and the locals when the latter tried to bar the former rebels from writing party slogans on school walls.

In another report, also made public today, INSEC demanded action against a policeman for helping JTMM cadres lift away four women, including the bride, from a wedding proceeding on February 19.

Head constable Ramesh Singh not only did not perform his duty, but also aided the Morcha cadres in abducting the women, the report said.
