Wife, daughter convicted of former lawmaker's murder

RAJBIRAJ: The Saptari District Court has sentenced a woman and her daughter to life in prison, with a term of 20 years each, for the murder of the woman's husband Mohammad Sadarul Miya Haque, former lawmaker and Constituent Assembly (CA) member.

Judge Mahendra Pokharel convicted Nurjahan (52) and her 21-year-old daughter Rubeda of the crime.

The Court also sentenced the main guilty Abdul Rauf of Chatari VDC-6, Siraha to life imprisonment with confiscation of all property.

A special team from the Central Investigation Bureau of Nepal Police had arrested Rubeda and Rauf on June 6, 2013 and Nurjahan the next day on the charge of the murder.

The 55-year-old Haque, of Kalyanpur VDC-2 in Saptari, was murdered on May 20, 2013 with a sharp weapon when he was asleep in his room at his Huma Oil Traders Petrol Pump in Kalyanpur-2.

Later, police investigation had concluded that Haque's wife Nurjahan, daughter Rubeda and one Indian citizen Jamirul Shekh had roles in the crime.

The investigation followed that Haque was murdered as he stood against his daughter Rubeda's relations with Shekh.
