With the beginning of the dry season, cases of wildfire have been reported in different parts of Kanchajungha Conversation Area.
A house was gutted at Amjilesa area of Phaktanglung Rural Municipality after a fire broke out there a week ago.
The Office of the Conservation Area said cases of fire have increased in recent days.
Chairman of Kanchajungha Conversation Area Management Council Khagendra Phembu Limbu said that officials, community forest users' groups and police personnel from Lungthung Police Post were working to bring the fire under control.
Likewise, a fire has been spreading in Patale community forest of Phaktanglung Rural Municipality from yesterday. Efforts are on to douse the fire by marking a fire line.
The Office of the Conservation Area has said reasons behind the fires have not been confirmed so far. Conservationists fear the extinction of endangered animals and priceless herbs, which would pose serious threat to biodiversity.
However, Conservation Officer Ramesh Yadav of Kanchajungha Conversation Area said that they were working to extinguish the fires to prevent huge losses.
