GAUSHALA: A woman at Pipara Rural Municipality in Mahottari district does not have a citizenship certificate even after 25 years of her marriage.

Lalita Paswan (40), who belongs to the Dalit community, has not been able to avail of various allowances provided by the government to the underprivileged communities as she does not have the citizenship certificate.

Lalita Paswan is the wife of Shatrughan Paswan and has four children.

Her parental house is in Kharihani of Dhanusha, a neighbouring district of Mahottari. She had asked her husband to have her citizenship made time and again. “But he did not pay any heed to this,” she said.

Lalita also shared that she had not even been able to enroll her children in school in the absence of her citizenship certificate.
