Woman pressed to withdraw complaint

Birgunj, November 14

A family which had reported a complaint about dual citizenship certificate is seeking security citing threats from security personnel themselves in Birgunj, Parsa.

Marjina Khatun of Jitpur Bara said at a press meet that police head Constable Hussein Dewan serving at Federal Unit Police Office Narayani, Birgunj has been warning her to withdraw the complaint from time to time. According to her, head constable Dewan has warned that he will detain Khatun’s husband on false drug abuse case if she doesn’t withdraw the complaint.

Marjina had reported at District Administration Office, Parsa, that Motiur Rahman, his wife Asma and son Arman of Jitpur were in possession of both Nepali and Indian citizenship certificates. She had submitted the evidences as well.

As per the complaint, Parsa Police held Rahman from Simara of Bara on October 22 and began investigation. Following the investigation, police held local Mathura Hajara for putting his signature in Rahman’s document on November 7.

District Police Office, Parsa, DSP Prakash Sapkota said that a search of Rahman’s wife Asma and his son Arman was under way. According to him, there is a date given by Parsa District Court about the dual citizenship case. They have to be present at the court tomorrow.

According to sources, head constable Dewan, who has been telling Marjina to withdraw the complaint, is the brother in-law of the alleged Rahman. Police administration had transferred Dewan to a hill district by way of departmental action for his misconduct a few months ago. However, he managed his transfer to the federal unit recently.

With the constant threat, Marjina has sought security for her husband and family and she questioned the trust of the police administration. “Security personnel, who are supposed to manage security of civilians, are involved in conspiring and plotting against innocent people. Hence, the guilty should be penalised sternly,” she demanded.

Marjina had disclosed Motiur’s dual citizenship case as the two families had a row.
