Sarita Kumari Rana of Baglung’s Ranasingh Kiteni was sent to jail following the verdict of a joint bench of Chief Judge Yagya Prasad Basyal and Judge Nara Bahadur Shahi.

Rana is accused of having defrauded over 50 persons out of Rs 25 million. “The court had told her to pay Rs 50 million; when she couldn’t pay the amount she was sent to jail,” said court Registrar Jitendrababu Thapaliya.  According to the victims, the woman would ask them for loan on different pretexts. “She would wheedle money out of us, and when approached for payment of the loan, would hand us a cheque, which would turn out to be one drawn against an account without any cash in it,” one of the victims said.
