Women and girls led by Mothers' Group former chair staged an agitation demanding justice for a single woman, who was thrashed to death, in Dharan today.
Agitating women shouted slogans in front of Area Police Office and BP Koirala Institute of Health Sciences demanding that people involved in Usha Rai's murder be arrested. Police have nabbed chief accused Urmila Rai in the incident.
Protesting women demanded that all people, including Urmila's husband, involved in Usha' murder be nabbed. Urmila Rai has been accused of mercilessly thrashing Usha with the help of a group of women. A video of thrashing her had gone viral on social media. Locals accuse that women are facing physical as-sault and violence in the name of mothers' group. Protesting women also demanded dissolving such groups.
A group of women had thrashed Usha Rai on October 20. Injured in the incident, Rai was admitted to BP Koirala Institute of Health Sciences. She was discharged after her health condition improved. However, she was admitted to the BPKI- HS after her health worsened on November 22. She had breathed her last a week later.
The body is in BPKIHS and family members have refused to take the body without the arrest of the people involved in the incident.
Usha's husband had died two years ago. She is survived by two daughters. Dharan sub-metropolis' Deputy Mayor and Judicial Committee Coordinator Aaindra Bikram Begha said guilty should be identified and arrested at the earliest.
