Women trafficking cases increase in Far-West

NEPALGUNJ: The number of women illegally going to gulf countries and neighbouring India has increased these days.

Of such cases in the Mid-Western Development Region, some are reportedly trafficked and some go missing, the Maiti Nepal MWDR Office said.

As many as 310 such applications were received in the office last year, said Regional Coordinator at the Office, Keshav Koirala.

He further added that the number of missing women might be more as all families do not report such incidents in the Office.

Coordinator Koirala added that efforts of controlling such trafficking cases have become more complicated these days.

The main cause behind such cases is poverty as most of them were reported from Dalit, poor and ethnic minorities.

Of total missing, 70 per cent are found to have gone to gulf countries and rest others in India.
