Women’s participation ensured in Province PSC

Kathmandu, March 11

The State Affairs and Good Governance Committee of the House of Representative today made it mandatory to include a woman in the Province Public Service Commission.

During clause-wise discussion on the PPSC (bases and criteria determination) bill, the lawmakers raised several issues but consensus was reached on a woman’s representation in PPSC.

The bill was passed by the National Assembly in February and the government is planning to pass it in the winter session. As per provision, the maximum number of members, including the chair in the PPSC, will be three.

Ruling Nepal Communist Party (NCP) lawmaker Rekha Sharma came up with this proposal and other lawmakers supported it in the meeting.

Referring to the constitutional provision, the Minister for Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs and Secretary of the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers did not agree with the lawmakers concerned who wanted to change the bill’s provision that the deputy speaker of the Provincial Assembly should be included in PSC.
