Working Journalist Act soon: Mahara

Dang, February 3:

Minister for Information and Communication Krishna Bahadur Mahara today said the Working Journalist Act will be implemented soon.

Speaking at a meet organised by the Dang chapter of Revolutionary Journalists’ Association in Ghorahi, he said, “The implementation of the Act will begin from the big media houses. The working journalist regulation has also been passed.”

“We will go for the implementation of the act soon as the ministry has already passed the proposal submitted by the committee formed to fix the salary of journalists,” he said.

Saying that there were practical difficulties for the simultaneous implementation of the Act in all media houses, he said, “The Act will be implemented in big media houses first so that amendment can be made in course of implementation.”

He said preparations were underway to provide welfare advertisement to FM radio stations as well. On issuance of ordinances, he said,”The ordinances were issued so as to carry out urgent tasks and will be implemented.”
