Workshop on cash crops begins

Lalitpur, November 14:

A two-day review workshop on Commercial Crops for Poverty Alleviation in Nepal began here today.

The Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives, Nepal Agricultural Research Council (NARC) and the National Tea and Coffee Development Board are organising the workshop.

Speaking at the inaugural function of the workshop, Ram Prasad Chaudhary, a member of the National Planning Commission, stressed the need to take into account the nature of the land before planting commercial crops. Stating that research should be conducted before planting such crops, he spoke of the need to maintain quality of crops in line with guidelines of the World Trade Organisation.
