KATHMANDU, APRIL 2
The World Autism Awareness Day (WAAD) is being observed worldwide today through various awareness initiatives aimed at promoting inclusivity and support for individuals with autism.
Marked annually on April 2 since 2007, following a United Nations (UN) resolution, the day highlights the need for the full realization of human rights and fundamental freedoms for autistic individuals, ensuring their equal participation in society.
In his message on the occasion, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres emphasized that observing WAAD contributes to achieving sustainable development goals and fulfilling global health-related commitments. He underscored the importance of providing enhanced access to healthcare, education, and employment opportunities for autistic individuals.
Global events, campaigns, and discussions are being held to raise awareness and foster a more inclusive society for people with autism.
