KATHMANDU, MAY 8

World Red Cross and Red Crescent Day is being observed today across the globe with the theme "Keeping Humanity Alive", honoring the dedication of volunteers and staff engaged in humanitarian service through the global movement.

The day commemorates the birth anniversary of Henry Dunant, founder of the International Committee of the Red Cross and the first Nobel Peace Prize laureate.

Observed annually on May 8, the day pays tribute to those who promote the principles and work of the Red Cross and Red Crescent in responding to natural disasters, conflicts, and health emergencies with compassion and solidarity.

In a time of growing inequality, health crises, and global unrest, Red Cross volunteers believe the day serves as a reminder of the need to uphold human values and spread peace and hope worldwide.
