Yadav defends compensation
Rajbiraj, August 21
Federal Socialist Forum Nepal Chairman Upendra Yadav today defended Samyukta Loktantrik Madhesi Morcha’s offer of Rs 5 million to the families of those who lost lives in course of the ongoing agitation in Madhes.
Speaking at a press meet organised by Madhesi Journalists’ Association here, Yadav referred to the then government’s decision to provide Rs 1 million to those who died in the democratic movement about 15 years ago and argued, “If the government back then offered that amount, what is wrong if we are offering a bit larger amount today?”
Commenting on Rajendra Mahato’s recent resignation from the Constituent Assembly, Yadav said, “Whether to resign or not is his personal decision. The morcha has made no such decision.”
He pledged on his party’s behalf to continue the struggle for the rights of Madhes and Madhesis from the Parliament, as well as streets.
He pointed out that all political developments would go down the drain if the so-called major parties continued with their obstinacy and revealed the plan to proceed with their agitation by collaborating with the like-minded forces.
Tarai Madhes Lokatantrik Party Chairperson Mahantha Thakur and other Madhes-based leaders were also present in the press meet.
