Yadav proposed for CEC

KATHMANDU: A meeting of Constitutional Council on Tuesday recommended Acting Chief Election Commissioner Ayodhi Prasad Yadav as the Chief Election Commissioner.

However, his appointment has to be approved by the parliamentary hearing committee.

The CC meeting held in Singha Durbar took the decision unanimously, according to CC member and Speaker Onsari Gharti Magar. “The CC unanimously endorsed his name as he is the senior-most commissioner of the Election Commission and a Madhesi candidate as well,” she said.

Before he was appointed election commissioner on March 24, 2013, for the second time, he had completed his first six-year term as election commissioner in January 2013.

He will serve about three-and-a-half years as Chief Election Commissioner as per constitutional provision.

Permanent resident of Prashawani VDC, Banauli of Saptari, Yadav holds PhD in economics.
