Yak eco-tourism festival in Panchthar

PHIDIM: A yak eco-tourism festival has been organised for the first time in Prangbung of Panchthar district to promote yak-keeping business.

The festival "Chauri Parya-Paryatan Mahotsav" has been organised in Charrate at an altitude of 3,560 metres near the border of Panchthar and Sikkim, West Bengal

The yak keepers and farmers of Phalelung Rural Municipality in the district have organised the festival on the occasion of Nepali New Year 2074.

National Planning Commission member Prabhu Budhathoki and Chief District Officer Binod Kumar Khadka inaugurated the yak festival by waving flags.

Various stakeholders including the Panchthar District Forest Office, District Coordinator Committee, ICIMOD Nepal, Phalelung Rural Municipality, and the District Veterinary Office have made the investment of around Rs 800,000 in the festival, the festival coordinator informed.

The festival has witnessed an estimated 1,000 visitors from Kathmandu, Taplejung, Ilam, Jhapa among other districts in eastern Nepal.

As many as 500 bovids and their dairy products have been kept in the exhibition. Various materials including handouts on yak have been showcased in the programme.
