Palpa, November 7:

Cadres of the pro-Maoist Young Communist League (YCL) misbehaved with women artistes and also beat up members of the Nepal Students’ Union (NSU) at Duvichaur VDC in Gulmi district on Monday night.

YCL cadres led by Janak Bhandari and Baburam Panthi attacked Prakash Budhathoki, Indra basnet, Hari Tandon, Anand Tandon, Tara Basnet and Prakash Basnet of the NSU and inflicted serious head injuries on them. The injured are being treated at Tamghas Hospital. Budhathoki said the YCL men attacked them with scythes and bicycle chains.

The dispute cropped up after a bereaved family which had lost a near

one requested the YCL men to lower the volume of a song-blaring speaker. The YCL men, holding a cultural programme to mark Tihar, refused and instead attacked those who came with the request, said Tara Basnet.
