YCL still seizing people’s property, says Poudel

Kathmandu, May 11:

Minister for Peace and Reconstruction Ram Chandra Poudel today accused the Maoists of not behaving in line with the Comprehensive Peace Accord signed between the eight political parties on November 21.

Poudel said the Maoists are still working as if there are two parallel states in the country. “State is a state. There cannot be another separate state within a state,” he said. “I have told them that they should not seek privilege among the political parties. They should work within the same boundaries that the other parties are working in. They have done nothing to get a privilege,” Poudel said, while speaking at a function organised to launch a book Govinda Prasad Pandey: In Our Memory.

“The act of seizing individual’s property has started again, although in a different way,” he said, citing incidents of Tarai violence. He added that violence should not exist in a democracy.

Finance Minister Dr Ram Sharan Mahat said that late Govinda Prasad Pandey, who was the district level leader of Nuwakot, was a straightforward person.

Leader of the Nepali Congress-Democratic Dr Prakash Sharan Mahat and co-chairperson of the Rastriya Janashakti Party Dr Prakash Chandra Lohani praised Pandey’s contribution to Jana Andolan-II and in the development of Nuwakot district.
