Youth deserted by wife commits suicide in Panchthar

PANCHTHAR: A youth who had recently returned home from foreign employment was found dead in his rented room, in Falgunanda Municipality of Panchthar district, on Wednesday.

Police identified the deceased as Suren Limbu (35), a tenant at the house belonging to Krishna Limbu.

Locals on Wednesday evening found Limbu dead inside his room in Ghurbise Panchami Bazaar that was padlocked from outside. Limbu had gone missing since 1:00 pm that day, locals informed.

It has been learned that Limbu's wife married another man just after Limbu had returned home from South Korea.

Panchthar Chief District Officer Murari Wasti said that security personnel deployed from Ilam's Amchok and Panchthar's Ranke were mobilised for the onsite inspection.

The preliminary investigation shows that Limbu might have committed suicide by consuming poison, police informed and added that further investigation into the incident was underway.

Meanwhile, an elderly woman identified as Sabitra Devi Bhandari, died in a lightning strike, in Subhang area of Hilihang Rural Municipality-5 in the district.

Police said Bhandari died few minutes after the lightning struck her, at around 4:00 pm, on Wednesday.

Preparation was on to send the body of the deceased to a hospital in Phidim for postmortem.
