UDAYAPUR: The District Court, Udayapur on Sunday convicted a youth of raping a seven-year-old girl and sentenced him 10 years in prison along with an order to pay Rs 20,000 in compensation to the victim's family.

A single bench of District Judge Tirtha Raj KC convicted 20-year-old Rabin Rai, the resident of Madibas area in Chaudandi Municipality in the district, of raping the girl on June 21, the court registrar Raj Kumar Acharya informed.

According to police, KC had offered candies to the girl before raping her. The girl was alone at home and was headed for the toilet when the incident occurred.

Acting on the complaint lodged by the victim's family members at Beltar-based Area Police Office, police arrested Rai on June 29.

Rai was remanded in judicial custody on July 23 informed registrar acharya. He added that Rai was sentenced to five years in prison for raping the girl and an extra five years of imprisonment was added as the victim was a child.
