Cabinet makes key appointments
KATHMANDU: A cabinet meeting held on Friday evening nominated Madhav Ghimire as the chief secretary, while the former chief secretary Dr Bhoj Raj Ghimire was named Ambassador to Canada. Similarly, Shushil Chandra Amatya, who quit his membership in the Constituent Assembly to pave the way for the current prime minister Madhav Kumar Nepal was named Ambassador to Sri Lanka.
Other important cabinet decisions include the approval of Bijaya Nath Bhattarai as the governor of Nepal Rastra Bank, the country’s central body looking after the monetary policies. Bhattarai was acquitted by the Supreme Court a few days ago after he was charged with causing loss to the central bank. Similarly, the former secretary at the science and technology ministry Umesh Mainali has been transferred to the Presidential office.
A committee has been appointed under the chairmanship of the National Planning Council Dr Yubraj Khatiwada to check the market inflation.
