Cabinet to decide Katawal issue

KATHMANDU: An informal meeting of the Maoist ministers today decided to take action against the chief of army staff Rukmangud Katawal after reaching consensus among the major political parties. During an emergency meeting called by the Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ at Singha Durbar this afternoon, the Maoist ministers also urged the PM to hold a meeting with CPN-UML and NC later today. “The government will take action against CoAS Katawal at any cost,” finance minister Dr Baburam Bhattarai said. Bhattarai also hoped that the NC and UML will support government move to retain the civilian supremacy. Peace minister Janardan Sharma ‘Prabhakar’ said that the next cabinet meeting would sack Katawal. According to him, cabinet will meet in a day or two. Earlier, PM Dahal met Indian ambassador Rakesh Sood in Singha Durbar for about half hour.
