Convict breaks Central Jail

KATHMANDU: An inmate, convicted of smuggling narcotics, fled from the Central Jail, said an official at Ministry of Home Affairs (MoHA) on Friday.

Sujan KC, a leader of the inmates, is at large since Wednesday. Nabin Ghimire, spokesperson, MoHA, said security agencies were yet to trace him.

KC was serving a 15-year term on charges of smuggling drugs. He was sentenced four years ago. A source blamed security lapse for the daylight jailbreak. “Suspicion abounds the incident. The security officials may have a link with the dreaded criminal and his henchmen,” he said. MoHA has formed a taskforce, comprising Narendra Sharma, senior official at the ministry, Murari Sharma, director, Department of Jail Management (DoJM), and a Superintendent of Police to probe into the case. The taskforce will interrogate the jail officials shortly. DoJM and MoHA representatives visited the Central Jail today.
