Dambar terms new statute impossible even with heavenly help
DHANGADHI: Minister for Land Reform and Management Dambar Shrestha on Wednesday ruled out the possibility of the new statute being drafted within the given time frame even with the help of heavenly forces.
Speaking at a press conference in Dhangadi, Kailali, Shrestha voiced his opposition to the extension of the transition period. He also said that even if a government is formed under the UCPN-Maoist leadership, a new constitution would not be possible within May 28. He said that even with the help of an otherworldly force the constitution could not be promulgated in the stipulated time. When asked why he is also a part of the present government, he said they were compelled to form the government following the exit of the Maoists and therefore they were obliged to step in to fill the void.
Shrestha also the leader of the CPN (ML) reasoned that the new constitution is impossible as the political parties are yet to agree on contentious issues like presidential system, prime ministerial system, administrative framework and state restructuring. He also said that all the political parties have agreed to extend the term of the Constituent Assembly for the sake of constitution building.
In another context, Shrestha said that the government would rehabilitate the freed Kamaiyas within six months and address the issues of Haliya and Kamlari soon.
Meanwhile, the Minister said that there is no immediate possibility of the formation of a UCPN-Maoist-led government.
