Garbage stench engulfs capital for 4th day

KATHMANDU: Heaps of stinking garbage have piled up in different places in the capital after the Kathmandu Metropolis failed to dump the garbage owing to the strike of locals living around the dumping site.

The Kathmandu Metropolis, the authorised body to manage the garbage in the city is unable to manage the garbage for the past four days following the obstruction in garbage disposal by the residents of Chhatre Deurali VDC in Dhading district.

Chhatre Deurali locals are preventing the disposal of garbage demanding development works in their village which is affected by the dumping site.

Dipendra Oli, legal officer at Department of Waste Management and Resource Mobilisation Centre of the Ministry of Local Development has urged the agitators to resolve the problem through talks.
