NHRC confirms NA hand in Bardiya killings, rules out rape
KATHMANDU: National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) on Thursday claimed the involvement of Nepali Army (NA) in the murders of two women and a teenage girl in Bardiya National Park (BNP).
Speaking at a press conference oganised by the NHRC in Kathmandu its spokesperson Gauri Pradhan said, the NHRC investigation into the incident proved that the deceased females were not poachers as claimed by the NA. He added that the NA hid evidence presenting a fake report following the incident.
Devisara B.K, Amrita B.K and Chandra Kala B.K were killed in the NA personnel attack inside the BNP on March 10.
However, the NHRC said that no evidence of rape of the three women by the army men was found, contrary to claims by the locals. NHRC stated that the victims were shot in the back from a distance even though they could have been taken into custody for investigation in the civilian court.
The constitutional rights body recommended action against the 15 NA personnel including Commander Subodh Kunwar who were involved in the incident. The NHRC also recommended a compensation of Rs 3,00,000 each and free education for the children of the deceased women. The NHRC urged that a case be filed in the civilian court against the culprits
