PM woos Madhesi parties to combat threat
KATHMANDU: With uncertainty about the timely drafting of statute looming large, PM Madhav Kumar Nepal on Wednesdays intensified talks with top brass of the political parties of the Constitution Assembly.
The urgent issues of current political scenario of the country, especially in the post-GKP demise period, and timely writing of the new constitution dominated the agenda of the talks.
PM Nepal specifically held talks with three Madhes-based parties namely,Madhesi People´s Rights Forum-Democratic (MPRF-D), Terai Madhes Democratic Party (TMDP) and Sadbhawana Party.
The talks also concentrated on the leadership of the government, said MPRF-D chairman Bijaya Kumar Gachhadar, also Deputy Prime Minister in the incumbent UML-led government.
Gachhadar said PM Nepal had, in today’s meet, sought the Madhes-based parties’ take on the change of guard in the government as has continually been demanded by the major opposition, UCPN-Maoist.
Responding to this, the major Madhesi parties, considering the nearing deadline for statute promulgation, assured of their backing to the present government, Gachhadar added.
Gachchhadar further said the major Madesi parties advised PM Nepal to accelerate the process of managing Maoist combatants through consensus among all the political parties.
Of late, PM Nepal has embarked on hectic political consultations with various political parties after the major opposition was rumoured to be pushing ahead a non-confidence motion in the House.
