Pokharel springs to battered PM defence
TANSEN: Amid mounting tension within the CPN-UML, general secretary Ishwor Pokharel said that Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal is not bound to tender his resignation from his post.
Speaking at a press meet organised by the Press Chutari Palpa in Tansen, Pokharel declared that the party central committee would decide on the case of the PM. He added that the Parliamentary Party (PP) decision would not matter for the resignation of the PM.
He put forth preconditions for the new government under UCPN-Maoist leadership. He repeated the oft-repeated demands of his party like the release of the property sized during the insurgency, dissolving the para-military structure of the YCL and youth wings of the party and the army integration process to be addressed for a Maoist-led government.
Pokharel’s statement assumes significance on the eve of the PP meeting of the UML which is stated for Sunday at the party headquarters to decide contemporary political issues and the signature campaign that has been reported against the party-led government by their parliamentarians.
