Sujata deems no single leader worthy of NC leadership

KATHMANDU: No single NC leader can fill the void created by the demise of the party’s president the late GP Koirala, claimed Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs Sujata Koirala, the daughter of the deceased leader.

Speaking at an interaction in the capital today, DPM Koirala said she has trust in Sushil Koirala, Sher Bahadur Deuba and Ram Chandra Poudel, the seniormost second generation NC leaders in the party.

None of those leaders, she claimed, has the ability to lead the party single-handedly and therefore stressed on the need to go ahead collectively.

Koirala, touted by many to take the place of her deceased father in the party, said the noble tasks of the peace and the constitution drafting processes have been overshadowed by the wrangling over state power among political leaders.

She however was hopeful about the timely drafting of the constitution, should party leaders act responsibly rising above petty party interests.

The DPM also stressed the need to reactivate the High Level Political Mechanism, which has stalled since the demise of her father and NC president GP Koirala.

Headed by the late Koirala, the HLPM had been instrumental in forging consensus on major national issues among the three largest parties in the CA, namely UCPN-Maoist, Nepali Congress and CPN-UML.
