Valley still facing petrol shortage
KATHMANDU: Denizens of Kathamdnu valley are still facing a shortage of petroleum products because Nepal Oil Corporation has failed to supply as per the demand.
The shortage entered the sixth day today and most of the petrol pumps in Kathmandu, Bhaktapur and Lalitpur have run out of petrol and diesel.
Ripumardini Petrol Pump — a Nepali Army petrol pump in Lagankhel — has hung up a notice ‘Out of petrol and diesel’ along with detailed information of the shortage. “The Thankot depot has not been able to supply petroleum products so we are unable to distribute today,” the notice reads.
Petrol pumps in downtown Kathmandu — Naxal, Teku, Kalimati, Kuleshwor, Sundhara, Maitidevi — remained closed today. However, the pumps run by the army, police and Sajha were distributing petrol and diesel till yesterday, albeit not enough. Today, they also ran out of supplies.
There was a serpentine queue of over 400 motorbikes and other vehicles at Three Brothers petrol pump in New Baneshwor today. Mali Oil Store in Kalimati also had a queue of over 300 vehicles. The store distributed petrol in the quota of Rs 500 worth petrol to each motorbike and Rs 1,000 worth petrol to each taxi and private vehicle. The continuous bandh in Tarai has dried up the Valley petrol pumps.
