After the truth
Before getting all melodramatic, barbaric, and mouthing all kinds of hateful words filled with profanity; let’s take a moment and analyze the situation and understand what is really happening.
What we are seeing right now in the streets of Kathmandu is just a tip of the iceberg i.e. no petroleum.
Let’s take the whole matter into consideration before pointing fingers. I agree that some are not being reasonable with this ‘new constitution’ thing. But, the major fault lies in our own country’s constitution and politicians.
What reflects the major stupidity of Nepalese politicians is the fact that they promulgated a new constitution without taking into consideration the demands of ‘Madhesis’. The demands may not be pragmatic, but promulgating the constitution without dealing and settling these issues, was incredibly stupid. I guess, they reckoned that the protest would stop after turning a blind eye to them. Well, it was axiomatic that it wasn’t going get alleviated, it was bound to get more severe.
Demand of having their own state aside, they had pretty reasonable demands like acquiring national identity from a mother, even if the father is not a Nepali man. The ‘open border’ makes this problem more severe because inter-country marriage is common there, so it is vital to deal with this problem.
Dividing the country into federal units is not really a solution to anything right now, if anything, it will create more problems. Our country is not ‘capable’, not ‘mature enough’ or even ‘economically strong’ enough to implement this complex idea.
Does these seem like intelligent decisions to you?
It doesn’t to me.
Also, the border blockade is being caused by our own Nepali fellow protesters. “We blocked the crossing overnight and we will not budge until the government listens to us and makes changes to these new borders in the constitution,” said Shiva Patel, general secretary of the regional Sadbhawana Party, recently.
Our constitution has major problems which have been pointed out by others and it needs solving. Sure, India also has its own personal intentions behind this, like that the fact that they don’t want an interference due to impending election in Bihar, which is happening just besides the border; huge commotion there, would mean problems for them as well.
