BlOG SURF: No wasting

The dumping of garbage at Uruli Devachi and the subsequent effects it has had on the people in the village has caused the city enough embarrassment.

Though the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) promised to work on the issue, no permanent solution has come out yet.

Now, a young city engineer has found a partial solution to the problem. Mechanical engineer Sumedh Bapat, and an environmental professional, Srinivas Kasulla have provided the PMC with a plan that not only provides a solution to tons of garbage waste, but also generates electricity.

The waste disposal method they came up with can treat 5 tons of hotel waste per plant on a daily basis to generate electricity through an eco-friendly biogas plant.

Last year, when they got their first project with an industry in Talegaon, the company had a turnover of Rs 17 lakh per annum. “It helped us a lot and within a year, our company had a Rs 7.5 crore turnover,” said Sumedh, sharing his success story.
