Is patience a virtue?
Patience matters a lot in life. Without patience, people cannot achieve their dreams. The importance of patience should be realised by every individual.
Whenever we are in any sort of troubles, people often advise us to have patience. Almost everyone—philosophers, iconic persons, motivational speakers and even our family and friends—will say “patience is a virtue”
Today we live in a world where everything is fast-paced. Our communications have become faster, we can send messages in a jiffy and our delivery system is swift. We have seen massive technological advancements which have made our lives easier.
We are accustomed to this. We want fast results; we look for immediate solutions. And at times, we tend to forget what patience means.
Any type of delay these days frustrates us. We get on our nerves when we are stuck in a traffic jam, or if we have to wait for someone even for some minutes.
So is patience really a virtue? It indeed is and everyone should possess this virtue. When technology today forces us to expedite and speed up, patience is something that can be defined as an act of self-determination. It makes us better human beings.
Sometimes waiting for the right moment is very important. But at times people tend to misinterpret it and say waiting does not get anyone anywhere. However, patience should not be perceived as a trait that means doing nothing and waiting for things to happen. One should not stop doing what he/she needs to do to achieve success; one, however, should not push for a quick result, as it takes time.
To quote Edmund Burke, “Our patience will achieve more than our force.” If we are impatient to get what we want, we can easily make bad decisions. Do bad decisions then help us get desirable goals? Chances are low.
So first of all we must be clear about our goals in life and we have to be equally informed about the time and efforts we have to put to achieve those goals. Then we should start acting accordingly. This helps us make patient. If we look for quick results, it may not help on most of the occasions.
Sometimes we may want to achieve success faster because we see people around who have been successful. Rather than getting jittery by the success of others, we should believe in ourselves.
