Swedish assistance
This is in reference to the news report “More Australian aid for flood victims” (THT, Sept. 26). To what has been reported, I would like to add that, Save the Children Sweden
regional office for South & Central Asia would contribute another 125,000 in Swedish currency. This contribution will be utilised for the implementation of Child Led Disaster Risk
Reduction, capacity building of the key players on Emergency Preparedness and strengthening of local non-governmental/governmental agencies in Kailali district of far Western region and Bardiya district from Midwest region.

Programme Coordinator — Child Rights and Disaster Risk Reduction, Regional Office for South and Central Asia
Burma
This refers to the edit page article “Saffron Sweep” (THT, Sept. 26). Burmese Buddhist teachers and monks have all along preserved the teachings of Lord Buddha. The same monks have now been forced to take to the streets to bring an end to the autocratic military rule in Burma. Nepal, as the birthplace of Lord Buddha and home to lakhs of Buddhists, has a moral obligation to help Burmese people in their hour of need. I request all Buddhist organisations and individuals to extend their moral support for the Burmese people against the military regime.

Right man
PM Girija Prasad Koirala has proved himself to be an extraordinary leader. It was under his leadership that the Maoists were brought into mainstream politics.
Moreover, Koirala has shown extraordinary gumption and political insight at times when that was exactly what the country needed. Now, at this critical juncture when only the constituent
assembly can resolve the political crisis, Koirala should do everything in his power to make the CA polls successful.

Though I reside in the US, I’m a regular reader of The Himalayan Times. I read the news through the PDF files available in your website. However, the trouble with opening the pages is a real killjoy. I hope you will look into the problem soon.

Hats off
We Nepalis living in Australia are proud of Prashant Tamang who has made every Nepali proud by winning the title of ‘Indian Idol’. Our pride in him increased when we knew that Tamang has as much love for Nepal and Nepalis as we as citizens of Nepal have for our fellow citizens back home. Hats off to him for his outstanding success.

Don’t glorify
This refers to the photograph of Bibek Yadav (THT, Sept. 24), the bodyguard of erstwhile
Minister of Forest Matrika Yadav, who had fled from duty with an AK- 47 rifle and who, as reported, joined the JTMM faction under Jaya Krishna Goit. Rather than glorifying criminals like Yadav by publishing their photographs, your newspaper should help the authorities nab them.
