Economic recovery
This refers to the article “Each Nepali owes world Rs. 13,000” (THT, June 29). The Nepali economy is in a bad shape despite continued assistance from various countries. This dismal state cannot improve until all Nepalis work together to save the economy from an imminent collapse.
Two areas that need particular attention are tourism and water resources. These two sectors, if given due attention, can generate a huge revenue to salvage the economy. The government can also introduce measures like adding an extra hour to each working day to help the economy make a rapid recovery. I hope all Nepalis will put in their bit at a time when the country needs their help the most.

SLC result
Though the SLC exams were over long ago, the results are yet to be published. This has delayed the opening of colleges, which makes it harder for the teachers to complete courses on time. On the other hand, the colleges may add additional hours to the already hectic daily schedule, burdening the students further. It may not be a bad idea to start the colleges right away by admitting the students on the basis of sent-up marks.

Unwise act
The news of the marauding leopard that died of the injuries it sustained after being attacked by a group of villagers at Dhapasi VDC was very saddening. Though the leopard posed a great danger to the locals, they should have left the helpless animal alone once it was chased into a fenced-off maize field. The villagers should have informed the authorities. If the locals had acted wisely, no one would have been injured and the beast would be alive today. We cannot afford to lose rare animals like this.

Amazing
The World Cup match between France and Spain was just amazing. Who would have thought that the French squad, which looked so helpless against the likes of Switzerland and South Korea, would defeat Spain, the team tipped by many to win the cup this time?
Ukraine finding a place in the quarter-finals is no less amazing, especially after their 4-0 thrashing at the hands of Spain. Brazil may now be the favourites to lift the cup, but France may just have it in them to end the Samba boys’ dreams. All fingers are crossed for
rip-roaring quarters.

Bad roads
With the onset of the rainy season, the potholes on the roads of Kathmandu are filled with water. The inconvenience this causes to the vehicle owners and the pedestrians, it seems, is not the government’s concern. Otherwise, why are these roads seldom repaired? And even when they are, why do they break up as soon as the giant rollers stop humming?

Good
Abhilasa Singh’s Midway piece “These superheroes” was good. Though Singh has many superheroes to admire, I have none so far. If there are plenty of them around, who knows, I might come across one someday. Till then, I will have to do with reading about the
larger-than-life superheroes.
