A feat, indeed
This is in reference to the news “Homegrown talent makes it to NASA” (THT, Feb 14). It is very encouraging to learn that a young Nepali, Rajendra Bhatta, has achieved the feat of
becoming a part of NASA. I agree that the highly developed country is tapping our potential. My suggestion is that we Nepalis should prepare the environment to utilise the talent that we have.

Wonderful
Apropos of the news report “Openers shine, Nepal lift ACC-17 trophy” (THT, Feb 13), it was wonderful news from the Nepali cricket field, but sad that football is still dominated by politics. The games schedule has been affected. The A Division football has yet to be
conducted. Both ANFA and the Ministry of Sports should be clear on this. Keep sports away from politics.

Wrong choice
Apropos of the news report “Washington envoy nominee green card holder” (THT, Feb 15), it is sad to learn that the cabinet has nominated a green card-holder as the Nepali ambassador to the US. A Nepali ambassador to any country is someone whom we respect as a true
representative of our home country. And since he has been in the US for more than 27 years and also holds a US green card, he is unlikely to truly represent our country in the US.

Rethink
It is reported that the government has called back some of the Nepali ambassadors to Kathmandu to brief them to request the countries that they are in not to send back working Nepali youths. This diplomacy to retain remittance economics is deplorable. I would like to opine that the diplomacy to sell the Nepali youth labour in foreign countries without their eagerness and interest should be avoided.
Embassies in these countries should be replaced with consulates. Nepali embassies should not do something that may put the nation in a low light abroad.

Promote
It was very interesting to see the U-17 Nepali team rout the rivals in the final of the ACC U-17 Elite Cup in Kathmandu recently. The Nepali team deserve kudos for making not only themselves but also the nation proud. The credit has come despite the stingy approach to promoting games like cricket. I hope that in the days to come more funds will be allocated for the development of cricket in the country. The infrastructure for international games should also be constructed to encourage our youths to excel in a sport in which the country has the potential.

Mistake
The news report “8 Gamblers arrested” (THT, Feb 15) has taken me by surprise. The arrested person Tanka Shrestha, as has been mentioned in the report, is not my younger brother. I only have two brothers, Rabindra Shrestha and Niraj Shrestha. I do not even have any relative by the name of the arrested person. This may be a ploy to defame me.
