MIDWAY: Life with a new meaning

Life in the present context is to live in the here and now irrespective of what it can do. One is fully immersed at the moment as a matter of fact. Coming to terms with it is a sure-fire method of sorting out the many stimuli as perceived by the senses.

When it is at par with the surroundings then there is a sense of totality — that everything from objects to living things is as it should be. There is no need to give an accounting because they all are placed in time and space, giving a feeling of security without any effort on one’s part. There is only a minimum of distraction to contend with and no vulgar display.

Life is on a smooth ride in the present context and nothing goes awry. Not the appeasement of hunger or slaking of thirst and the burping sound one makes in its aftermath.

The immediate is what counts without in the least being showy. Like anything else, there is nothing to spoil the fullness and a state of awareness.

This comes a full circle whenever the silence is broken — the chirruping of birds in the nearby bush, the rustle of curtains as the breeze flows in from an open window and the chiming of the clock as the pendulum swings to and fro. Therefore, there is a need for patience and stay still.

Snapping back into one’s state of being requires alertness. This is possible if there is no lapse in attention. But it soon passes out, to be replaced by the previous feelings.

A slight tension is apparent but nowhere does it intrude. It gives one a respite and the chance to sort oneself out.

The state of flux is evident whereby anything that is not connected or relevant is shunned. Only those that matter are allowed into the conscious mind where they are subject to scrutiny. As a result, one is constantly trying not to be at odds with the sensations being perceived.

This comes in the form of a subjective experience that may at times perk one up. And, the need to be one with it gives control over anything untoward from happening.

The emotions are allowed full play and gives expressions in the furrowed brow and a tensing of the body. Life then takes on a new found meaning subject to the game being played out.
