MIDWAY: Mystery of life

Mysteries are infinite. Life itself is a big mystery — the most mysterious of all mysteries. How did life originate? Who created it? Did God create it? If we are to believe that God is the creator, then the question arises: “Who created God?”

The Greeks were inclined to the belief that the world has always existed. Some philosophers believe that at some point something must have come out of nothing. Did God then come out of nothing? How can something come out of nothing? How mysterious!

The fusion between an egg and a sperm forms a foetus, which later develops into a human being.

A tiny seed grows into a mighty tree. Really mysterious! The nine planets rotate on their imaginary axis and revolve round the sun. What awesome power holds the planets on their orbit? Physicists call it gravitational force. But what generates this force? Where does it come from? Simply mysterious!

The mother earth, home to six billion people and billions and trillions of species of plants, animals and the like, is very small in comparison to the size of the universe. Our grand earth is merely a mote of dust floating in the air in comparison to the size of the universe.

If size were the measure of greatness, then humans would count for nothing in the universal scheme of things. But man alone, who is made of fragile flesh and bones, can contemplate and uncover the mysteries of the unthinking universe. To him and to him alone belongs this power. How mysterious!

Death is the inexorable law of nature. Time gathers dust on everything. Nothing, however great, can withstand the destructive potentialities of time. Physically death is the end of

life but religion tells us that we also have a soul that is never born and never dies — a soul that is immutable. If so then how does the soul leave the body upon death? Where does it go? Awfully mysterious!

There is no limit to man’s creative potential. Man has dissected, discovered, experimented, explored, invented and thereby created wonders. But in spite of his knowledge and wisdom man has not been able to create a single blade of grass. How mysterious! The only conclusion is: Our life is shrouded in mysteries.
