MIDWAY: Sworn enemies

Gender issues may be one of the most controversial topics. The comparative study of diverse psychologies of males and females has attracted many psychologists and anthropologists, even though trying to understand human motives and desires could be compared to solving a complex jigsaw puzzle. But digging beneath women’s psychological makeup is a much harder task as compared to study of men’s mind. Compression of emotions stimulates a sudden outburst in men. Though late, he can at least be understood to some extent. Comparatively, despite their chatterbox nature, women are harder to understand.

Recently, these lines in a magazine arrested my attention: “Boys have faults many. Girls have only two - everything they say and everything they do.” Further down the column, there was an avalanche of material portraying women’s complexity. The villainous depiction of women in teleserials seems to have influenced such articles. These characters undertake anything under the sun in their lust for wealth, thereby highlighting women’s unscrupulousness.

A few facts are undeniable though. A prettier and smarter woman instils jealousy in others. How many women open-heartedly compliment each other? It is vital that women break that shell of inhibition between them. There can’t be understanding without unrestricted back and forth. And, how logical is it for a woman (who can’t be understood herself) to accuse a man of not understanding her?

There is a circle of women who spend most of their time in beauty saloons doing manicures, pedicures, facials, body massaging, hair treatment and waxing. Investment in superficial stuffs makes one doubt if the concept of beauty being more than skin deep is really true. Being nosey and backbiting are other peculiar features of women.

Digging into unimportant matters often creates disorders. It ought to be known that lesser minds talk about people, average minds about events and great about ideas. Whatever may be the reason behind her complexity, what’s certain is that women themselves are their worst enemies.

Mutual jealousy. Backbiting. At the end of the day, women will always be women.
