Official version

To dispel further confusion among the citizenry, the government has finally taken the decision of ‘controlling the news flow out of the cabinet council.’ The general public agrees with the Minister of State for Information and Communication Dilendra Prasad Badu’s view that the dissemination of news is not happening in a desirable manner. To prove him right several examples can be cited where ministers have ventured irresponsible remarks that have only created unnecessary controversies. People in high positions should think twice about the repercussions their personal interpretations on the nation’s pressing problems may have. After all, creating misunderstanding, that too when the country is passing through a chaotic transitional phase, and more so, at a time when the public is largely disappointed with the government’s lacklustre performance, is tantamount to adding fuel to the fire.

Minister of State Badu has thankfully been designated the official spokesperson. In addition, the establishment, from now onwards, has chosen to make public the cabinet decisions only after 24 hours of their having been taken. This is a positive step, as it will help curb the tendency to volunteer personal views that only aggravate the existing situation, which is fluid. The best policy for all ministers would undoubtedly be to stick to their ministry’s purview and utilise their time and energy in grappling with the burning issues facing the country. After all, doublespeak, backtracking, constant bickering and fault-finding will lead the nation to nowhere.
