KATHMANDU, JULY 18
The government has cancelled appointment of the ambassadors to various countries as appointed by the government led by erstwhile Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli as political appointees.
Oli government had forwarded process of appointment of eleven envoys, of which two were career diplomats while the remaining nine were political appointments.
It has been learnt that Deuba government is looking to continue appointment process of career diplomats and revoke process related to political appointments.
Oli-government had appointed Sumnima Tuladhar the envoy for Australia, Krishna Chandra Sharma for South Korea, Junga Bahadur Chauhan for Russia, Nirmal Raj Kafle for Austria, Jeevan Prakash Shrestha for Egypt, Ramesh Chandra Poudel for Sri Lanka, Yuvraj Karki for Bahrain, Kul Prasad Nepal for Brazil, Narayan Prasad Sangraula for Myanmar, Meraj Musalman for Saudi Arabia and Sumitra Subedi for Denmark.
The Sher Bahadur Deuba-led government rolled back the appointment process although the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has already made correspondence to the concerned countries regarding the appointments.
Prior to this, a writ was filed at the Supreme Court challenging the appointment of Yuba Raj Karki as the ambassador to Bahrain to which the apex court issued an interim order directing the government to not proceed with the recommendation citing disqualification based on educational grounds.
